The Bengkel Khas

It's the annual activity for the Interactors of JIGSS Interact Club to pay a visit at the Bengkel Khas in Jinjang Salatan, Kuala Lumpur. The Bengkel Khas is for the Down Syndrome. They may be 30 years old but they have a mentality age of a 5-year-old.

Last year, we helped them by reducing their works that they were assigned to do but luck shone on us. There weren't any work to do so we played with them. We did the infamous "Chicken Dance", the London Bridge, the Musical Chairs and also the Musical Statues. They also did a dance to show us. They danced to "Waka Waka" by Shakira.

It was a beautiful sight that we can bring our mentality age to their level and had fun with them without any hardships. They were happy and glad that we came and paid them a visit.

We realised that we're really lucky to have a perfect mind and body to carry out our daily activities. We need to appreciate what were given to us as there are still many poor and unfortunate people out there that are still suffering to live.

These are the pictures of our happy faces:-

VI Interact Club Treasure Hunt

On 30th of March in the year 2013, 5 representatives of Interact Club of JIGSS went to VI to participate in the Treasure Hunt held by the Interact Club of VI. Those 5 ladies were Sandeep Kaur, the president, Preetijit Kaur, our treasurer, our IU Director, Alicia Anne Antoine, Siti Khadijah, the Publicity Director and Suyaishar Sebastian. They were also accompanied by the girls from JIGSS Scouts team.

They were not told to only go treasure hunting in the school compound but also around KL. From VI to Bukit Nanas to Cap Square to KLCC to Pavillion and back to VI. It was indeed a journey. The strategies for this activity was indeed out of the box. It was really amazing to encounter such amazing plans for the activities. They didn't get the winner's prize but they did have fun solving clues and running around KL.

It was a new experience for them and they hope to have more of these activities in the years to come.

Interact Club

This is the official blog of Interact Club of Jalan Ipoh Girls Secondary School.

Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 14-18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting.

Club membership varies greatly. Clubs can be single-gender or mixed, as well as large and small. The membership base can be drawn from the student body of a single school or from two or more schools from the same community.

Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through projects, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs. And, in the process, Interactors develop leadership skills and learn the value of hard work.

As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries and geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon.

Interactors also often spearhead the formation of Rotaract clubs and participate in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). Interactors also often go on to become Youth Exchange students or Ambassadorial Scholars.
